We offer a variety of Church and Orchard Tours on selected dates throughout the year, however if you would like to book a private group tour please contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Abbey Church Tours
Every Thursday at 2:30pm
The starting point is in the main hall near reception. The tour begins at the commemoration site of the beginning of the Ampleforth Community history in 1802. It takes in the portrait of Cardinal Basil Hume, who was Abbot of Ampleforth between 1963 and 1976 and Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster between 1976 and 1999. It leads to the Abbey Church, the centre of the Community’s life and work where Divine Office is prayed five times per day.
The tour takes a maximum of one hour.
There is no charge for our open tour but we welcome donations to support the work of the Abbey and the Community.
Group tours can be arranged by appointment. If you would like more details please ring 01439 766486 or email Hospitality
Church Mouse Tours
Saturday 24th March and Saturday 27th October
The visit will include a tour of the Abbey followed by a visit to the school library for a tour of the beautiful Mouseman furniture.
The original college library of 1861 was first expanded in the 1920s when the Headmaster, Father Paul Nevill, commissioned Robert Thompson to furnish the library. In the next decades Thompson worked on further expansions and the library is reputed to be his greatest work.
The tour will end with afternoon tea.
Tours are priced at £17.00 per person and must be pre-booked.
