Ampleforth Visitors

Grounds & Recreation

Ampleforth Abbey is set in over 2,000 acres of land in the Howardian Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with the North York Moors National Park to the north. The grounds at Ampleforth boast an array of woodland and lakeside walks in a tranquil and relaxed environment. Visitors are very welcome to enjoy the public areas for walking, we do kindly ask all visitors to stay on the public footpaths.

The Ampleforth valley is also great for cycling and cyclists are very welcome to explore the quiet country lanes and bridleways. Some of the land was farmed by the Community of monks, but most of this has now been leased to local farmers.

Estate Walk

This walk takes you across the valley and is approximately six miles, which takes an average of two hours.  Click to view more details.

Admission to the Abbey and Grounds is free but we welcome donations to support the work of the Abbey and the Community.
