Abbey Roof Repairs

Work is now underway on repairs to the roof of the Abbey Church, a project made possible by a grant of £100,000 from the Government's Listed Places of Worship Roof Repair Fund.

The grant is one of 502 awards from a total funding package of £30million that have been announced for urgent roof repairs for places of worship across the UK by the Chancellor of the Exchequer.  The fund is administered by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).  The grant, combined with funds from Ampleforth Abbey Trust, will enable us to address urgent roof repairs that will ensure the Abbey Church is protected, safe and open for use.

Whilst the work is carried out the Abbey Church will be obscured by scaffolding, however it will remain open throughout the project, as will the Tea Room, Abbey Shop and Visitor Centre.

The repairs are due for completion by 31st March 2017.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused to visitors during this period of essential maintenance.
