Tours of the Abbey Church
Tours of the Abbey Church, led by a monk, are held every Thursday at 2.15pm
The starting point is in the main hall near reception. The tour begins at the commemoration site of the beginning of the Ampleforth Community history in 1802. It takes in the portrait of Cardinal Basil Hume, who was Abbot of Ampleforth between 1963 and 1976 and Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster between 1976 and 1999. It leads to the Abbey Church, the centre of the Community’s life and work where Divine Office is prayed five times per day.
The tour takes a maximum of one hour.
Further tours can be arranged by appointment. If you would like more details please ring 01439 766000 or email reception@ampleforth.org.uk
There is no charge for our tours but we welcome donations to support the work of the Abbey and the Community.
Visitors are welcome to attend services in the Abbey Church.
When there are no services, the Abbey Church is open to visitors who might simply like to look around the church at their leisure.
