Ampleforth Visitors

26 May 2018

In his Rule St Benedict says, “all guests are to be welcomed as Christ”. You are very welcome as you browse this website which describes our grounds at Ampleforth. When we arrived here as homeless refugees in 1802 this was a largely deserted spot. Over the past two hundred years we have built up a school and, more recently, facilities which enable us to welcome visitors to our estate and to our Abbey Church.

I hope that you will find this site informative. If you are able to visit us in North Yorkshire I hope that you will discover a little of the peace that is such an important background to the prayer and reflection which enable us to come to know and love God.

Abbot Cuthbert Madden, OSB
